  17. <p>     Are you better off than you were four years ago? The
  18. Economic Policy Institute, a liberal Washington think tank, will
  19. soon release a detailed analysis of recent census data, and the
  20. Democrats can't wait to trumpet the economic findings. For the
  21. first time in postwar history, average wages and benefits have
  22. declined for four years straight, says the institute. Perhaps
  23. worse: wages of college-educated Americans, women and
  24. white-collar workers--whose votes are crucial--have been
  25. declining. Assuming Americans vote their pocketbooks, Democrats
  26. stand to gain.
